Class #207 - Follow The Arrows Pattern Quilting

Enjoy an exciting class in which I will discuss the various types of patterns, tips on choosing patterns, and ways to modify them.  We will cover the capabilities of all the various machines and lean the 5 shapes from which all patterns are made.  Using these shapes, you can execute any design from freehand to pantograph quilting.  Learn ways to offset quilting patterns as will as the use of interlocking patterns.  I will cover ways to begin and end the quilt by adjusting row space and space between designs to make them fit the size of the quilt.  I will show the math method as well as the "Pantograph Planner."  I will show how I adjust the corners when doing borders and also show how to turn quilts to do the side borders all in one pass.  We will discuss inserting block designs and also placing large medallions in the centers of the quilts.  I will demonstrate tools I use to make quilting easier and more enjoyable.  Appropriate for longarm, mid-arm, and short-arm.

This is a drawing class so bring a large pad of paper, pencils, eraser, etc.,  for easier drawing and note taking.

In this class Sally will teach you how to listen to the quilt top. Learn how to interpret the customer's desires and the quilt tops urgings. You will find simple solutions so you are not talking to yourself about a "slight lapse in judgment" while you are trying to finish the quilt. find valuable ways to choose the correct batting for the desired affect and pick threads that enhance your quilting. Help customers choose patterns that fit their budget using the right questions to ask and solutions to offer. You will learn to spot piecing errors and inconsistencies and eliminate problems right from the start. - Finally we'll tour the show and apply these principles to quilts from traditional to contemporary. You will have a plan that is easy, that works, gaining confidence while developing your skills and abilities.

How to design quick custom designs for samplers and other quilts that stump your imagination. Bring your sketch books and follow along as Kim uses loops, swirls and continuous curves to design custom treatments for sampler blocks. You may boost your profit margin with this technique to quickly get those samplers done. Students are encouraged to bring unquilted tops for group discussions on design possibilities.

Class #241 - This Old Quilt

 Are you unsure of machine quilting an older/antique quilt top because it will loose its value? Pam Clarke, a longarm quilter since 1988 and a collector of antique quilt tops will discuss the how, why and when or if they should be finished. She will show you how to take care of problem area's such as full borders, blocks and loose seams, learn how to treat musty smells, remove old age stains, how to choose the correct batting, backing, thread and the correct quilting design. Whether you are finishing an antique top or a top of current fabric and style, this class will give you the confidence to make the correct decision to finish "This Old Quilt." For easier note taking and sketching bring a clipboard and colored pencils or pens, a pencil, a small sharpener and eraser. Cameras are welcome!
